cold start problems

So I have chewed thru 3 batteries in the past 14 months,, and these are the Interstate Megatron Pluses!!
after several trips to the mechanic (today being the last), they told me I just don't drive this whip enough. Since July '14 I've only gone 2k miles. I bought a battery tender and hooked it up to the terminals.. (And didn't have to cut anything for the door to shut on the battery box. This BETTER Do it!!

Battery tenders work great, mine sits all winter and it starts up in the spring no problem.

that's what I'm using now and love it. bought the extensions to them so I can plug kim and my car basically with little effort from the grill or my car from where the aero lip is.

Excellent, my buddy had me put a battery in his Mustang GT, he only drives it on nice days, so I also put a Battery Tender in it, he loves it.

That's good to hear that the starting problem went away when changing your battery. When I changed my battery it went away as well, but then it came back a few months later. Hopefully yours stays fixed.

hi have 2003 fx45 same problem starting as you - called dealer about advice on AC amplifier - they think i'm "wacko" but i think you guys are correct - don't really want to give the dealership $ 800 + for a starter that they want to put in. my infinity dealership is the worst Tucson,AZ Can anyone tell me what does the AC amplifier have to do with starting the car?
is it in the starting loop of electronic monster. Also dealership had never heard of or changed out an ac amplifier for starting problems. if it so common on the 2003 fx45 i thought the dealership would have done a few. thank you for any help
And also its so easy you can do it in around 15 minutes

When I bought my 1st gen (2008) in 2015 it had the "cold start problem"(I'm pretty sure thats why it was for sale!), spent months changing all the usual suspects(fuel pumps, cam sensors, starter, battery, etc), after every change the FX would start fine for a couple of weeks and then it was back to scratch! battery change helped the longest(thats why so many guys think its battery related). Thanks to IS I told the head mechanic (Nissan) to just change the AC amp ( I was uit of options!), He was reluctant as he saw no reason how the AC amp had anything to do with starting?

That was 2 years ago, since then the FX starts perfect on one crank en idles smooth!

How does the AC amp affect starting? Hell, I don't know, and you won't find much info on the net, and I spent many long desperate nights on the net trying to solve this issue, finally, IS came to the rescue! I did stumble on to a post that stated " the AC amp gathers info on outside temp, humidity, etc which influences the gas/air mix used when starting the car" Whether this is true or not? I have no idea, but its the only logical answer I could find.

hi TO EVERY ONE!

My Fx35-2004 have a funny noise when i turn it on cold in the mornings it make a clang noise for a second and then fade out then when the oil is hot it stars again but this time a little different. I took my FX to a mechanic for diagnostic and he said that the sound comes from the 4 Sprocket camshaft. any advise on how to reduce this Disturbing sound until i can buy this parts which are very expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like it's about time to bump this thread again! My FX hasn't had the problem yet (knock on wood) but I sure am glad I found this thread before it does! I read through most of the thread but I don't remember ever seeing a possible explanation as to how the AC amp is related to all of this. Or, for that matter, WTF an AC amp even is. Does anyone know?

Morning all. My first non-intro post. For the last few months my 2007 FX35 AWD has been hesitating when starting. Almost like it was gasping for air. But, she always started. Until last week. One time in just turned and turned without starting. I let it sit for a few minutes and tried again. Same result. So, I called my VERY trusted mechanic to let him know I'd be getting it towed in. Being the car expert I am (LOL), I thought, maybe its a fuel thing and if I bounce the car a little maybe it will get things going again and I can drive it to the mechanic. Guess what? It worked! So, I drove it in. The service rep at the mechanic took it in to be looked at. Coincidentally, he has the same car, just a year off. Long story short, he told me about the AC amp issue and how they'd have to order the ungodly expensive part. Today is the day it gets installed. I've not had the problem since I originally took it in and it even doesn't seem to choke when starting. After reading this thread, I am convinced that is my issue, however. Wish me luck!

Edit: The above was written before my introduction post was approved. AC amp was installed and car is running great. Will keep you posted!

welcome! thanks for the intro and update. I had a simliar issue with my 03. i replaced my ac amp with a preowned part, still had issues. I then replaced the starter and no issues since. keep us updated!
