cold start problems

Mine did the exact same thing a week ago ('06 with 36k miles). It was the battery starting to crap out with cold weather. Replaced it with the Optima Red Top today.

I have the same exact problem with mine for the past 2 years and I also have an 06 fx35, it only happens when it starts to get cold outside. I changed my battery as well with a brand new one and once the cold weather started again this year, same situation. I shouldn't have to change my battery every year. I read somewhere that it is the AC amplifier that needs replacing or the IPDM module needs replacing. Cant quite figure out what it is yet but hopefully someone can help out. I changed my battery last year and a week later it still had the same issue. I brought it to infiniti and they said that I had to buy a new infiniti car battery which is why it still did it, I call BS on that unless someone can prove it. Kind of embarrassing driving a luxury car when it takes a couple times of cranking for it to start at a gas station when people are looking at you.

Really ticked off. We're having this issue as well, but it stranded my wife for 30 minutes and I had to pick her up. Arranged for towing and as we were moving it out of the parking spot (while it was in neutral), I decided to try and start it... started immediately. It has happened 4 more times, and I can try and try, but as soon as I put it in neutral, it starts immediately. I've had my battery tested...Good, almost perfect. I agree with the getting looks comment... If I wanted a car that gave me fits, I would have bought a Ford...

On another note, I've been having an irregular idle issue on morning starts... It fluctuates and if I blip the throttle, it goes away and is gone till the next morning or a couple mornings later...

Any thoughts or are we on our own?

Sorry to tell you bud but I think we are all on our own. I definitely think that it is something electrical rather than cleaning a throttle body or changing a battery. Sometimes it happens after I've been driving the vehicle for a little while get to a store run in and cone back out in 10 minutes and it take a couple cranks for it to start. It doesn't even have to be sitting overnight. I plan on getting rid of my car in the spring time anyways so I'll just stick it out. After all the complaints and issues dealing with the same problem I'm totally surprised that Infiniti has not narrowed it down to the exact part that needs to be replaced.

Got the same situation this morning. Started after 20 sec - battery is new and TB clean.
The only reason is temperature - 0,4 F.
Maybe some water in the fuel?

Anyway I'm going to change sparks and add the water remover to gas ( but waiting for bit higher temp).

+1. I thought my fob was going bad (it still might be) because it wouldn't unlock or start the car, or I thought the car wasn't recognizing the fob. But then leaving for work this evening the fob worked but when I started the car it cranked for about 5 seconds before starting. Never did that before. Then after driving a few minutes the red "key" light started flashing meaning it doesn't see the key. I stopped for coffee and had to use the hard key to start, fob stopped working again, then it took another 5 seconds to crank.
I'll be changing the batteries in both the car and fob tomorrow.

Have you guys noticed that all of you own 2006 FX35? Something just ain't right here. Look at all my threads under my name. I know your pain!

Yes, I posted a similar comment like this in another thread too. I notice a lot of these issues with start up are with 2006 models.

Ok everybody, so far for the past week I think that I have figured out how to start my car without any issues,(knock on wood). This is what I do exactly. I have my car setup for the steering wheel to come down when I turn the starting knob just incase some of you guys have it setup up to not do that, well anyways. I open the door hop in close the door. When I turn the the starter knob into ACC and as the steering wheel is coming down or count to about 3 seconds and before it stops I proceed to then actually crank to start the car. This might sound retarded or weird to you guys but so far I haven't had to try and start it more than once in the morning or any other time. I live in Mass and the weather has been very cold in mornings around 20-25 degrees. Before I would hop in the car and immediately try and start the car and it would crank and crank for awhile and never actually start. I would usually have to try 2 or 3 times before it would start. So then I tried to start it when the steering wheel came down to a complete stop and then try but I would have the same issue. Lastly I tried my before the steering wheel came to stop and it seems like it actually works. I have no idea why this it seems like it works but it does. I personally think that powering the steering wheel down for some reason is kind of like kickstarting the system allowing the car to actually start. Like I said Ive had this issue for the past 2 years and know that it is something electrical and not mechanical. But for those of you that are having the same issue as me with starting the car just try my idea and see if it works for you. I'd like to see and hear if this works or not for you guys. Thanks

Recently my friend was playing around the FX50 for a very very long time, with the lights on this one music on, opening closing stuff, etc so after a while, tried to turn on the car and it turned, but then stopped almost like it tested to see if the battery had enough juice, verified it didn't so stopped. Just charged the battery up a little and all good.

The point of the above story is that maybe because I did notice that I still had a decent amount of battery (could still turn on HIDs, music was still fine, and when you tried to start the FX it was wanting to start and seemed fine) but it had some sort of checked and failed and cut the power to it completely after like 2 seconds. Maybe this steering thing you are talking about is what bypasses it, but the electrical test may be the test that is necessary to make sure you don't damage other components at the same time.

This is all hypothetical and just adding to this from what I've experienced.

I have an 06 and i don't have that problem at all. I disabled the steering wheel and seat moving non-sense everytime you turn on and off the car. When it's really cold my rpms go high and as the car warms up it drops but this cranking issue is very odd. Anyone else with dealer input on what it could be?

Exactly the same problem on my '06 FX35, too. I have about 45,000 miles.

Here's what my car does: YouTube - FX Ignition Problem
The symptoms are the same. Only happens when it's cold outside. Replaced my battery last year and the car was fine over the summer and once it got colder, it started doing that again. Is there any way we can file a complaint or something to Nissan/Infiniti so they'll start a recall on this issue? (The video was taken when it was warmer. Now that it's colder, the car won't fire up even after 2-3 tries)

It's the worst feeling to be driving around a car that costs as much as other luxury cars but won't even start properly. It's so embarrassing when you're in a public parking lot and ppl see your fx not wanting to fire up :mad.: Sucks too because my warranty just ended a few months ago.

This is how it was last year (about 9,000 miles less than now). I don't "crank it" like that anymore after someone telling me that doing so could cause damage on the car. Now I try for 2-3 seconds then let it go and try again.

Seriously, how do you let Nissan/Infiniti know of this issue? The dealerships are not helping out. Can you directly complain to Infiniti? If so, how? Just for entertainment...I get some bullsxxx comments from the Infiniti service reps when I took my car there. Let me tell you some stupid and idiotic comments I got: (1) "The keyfob to your daughter's daycare is interfering with your Infiniti I-key.", (2) "You must be using poor gas"...BTW, I only use Chevron, Shell, 76, and Mobile (91 octane), (3) "Your I-key malfunctioned.", (4) "Don't know. We are not getting any code.", and (5) "You need to reprogram your I-Key." In short, they have no Fxxxing ideas.

As soon as you turn the key, I can hear that the battery is not good enough. Okay, you changed your battery a year ago...maybe you just got a bad one or something happened....get a new battery first...it doesn't sound right when you turn the key almost like you had left the lights on too long.

Or maybe there is some sort of electrical leak where it's using the battery when you don't want it too. If you did ANY electrical mods, I would wonder. Something stupid as simple like new HID fog lights maybe could be draining all the time or more than you think. Just saying.
