cold start problems

Fix for cold weather start

I was having trouble starting my '08 FX35 when it started getting cold out. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was an electrical issue and not a mechanical issue. When starting your car in cold weather follow these steps and your fx will start everytime no problem. Before turning over your car, turn off the radio and the heat. Then proceed with starting your car. I know it seems stupid, but totally works. The dealer told me that it had to do with the car trying to start the radio and heat before the car and in cold weather it has issues. Let me know if this helps you!

Yeah that's a pretty simple solution. The battery has lower cranking amps in the cold, so the less it's needing to do, the better, and will start the vehicle easier.

And you're an '07 not an '06. Changing the battery fixed my problem, too. Supposedly this doesn't help at least one '06er.

I wish it was this simple for the '06. I've tried so many things (even turning off the automatic wheel recline and seat moving) to see if that was the problem. And the answer was no every time.

I am planning on dropping it off at the Passport Infiniti of Alexandria. I called the dealer that I usually go to (Infiniti of Chantilly) and told my service advisor that many other '06 FXs are having this issue and I want it fixed. His response to me was "stop reading things online". He made it sound like I was reading fictional stories online. He was telling me how a "3-5 second delay before turnover is normal" and he wouldn't considered that a problem. Although I do not expect much from a dealer, at least I'd want them to SEEM to be willing to help me out especially on nontrivial issues like this.

Anyways I'll be out of the country for a month and I'm planning on leaving the car at Alexandria for however long it takes them to figure out the problem. When I called them the service advisor was much more reasonable (convinced me to go get the battery checked just to make sure that it's not the malfunctioning battery). I got my battery checked just to make sure it didn't go bad and the result came out good (it is a one year old, top-of-the-line battery). I just need to take a look at the TB and make sure that's not dirty before I bring my ride back to the dealer. Hopefully they'll be able to duplicate the problem and fix it.

I'll keep you all posted.

Funny sidestory:
When this problem came up for the first time last winter I brought it to the dealer (Chantilly) and showed the video of the car not firing up to the self-claimed manager there. This was a month after I got my car. His response was "bring me $50,000 and I will give you that car (pointing to a displayed '10 FX)" and walked away. Really? Maybe I was expecting too much from them to begin with but how the "manager" treated me is just ridiculous.

Wow. Next time you see that guy remind him who funds his paychecks...

You should take your $50K and go to AUDI, BMW, MB, and LEXUS and buy one of their cars... Real luxury car companies... Then, drive your real luxury car to that dealer and show your car to that AxxHOLE. I'm done with Infiniti. I'll just get a Nissan next time because it's cheaper and you get the same car. Ha, Ha, Ha.

Yeah, just get a Nissan FX!

Does the pic not show up for you? Shows up for me, weird. I posted from my phone, but now I'm on the computer.

Ah ok, good haha. I wasn't sure if you added the space in the url or not.

350Z with a backseat? Oh wait, that's a G35.

Me again... my saga continues

Well, took my 06 FX35 into the Infiniti Dealer here in Atlanta and after 8 days of trying to figure out why my car would not start, they decided to replace the ECM. This seemed to have solved my issue until 2 days ago. Went to start my car and it fired right up, however, the RPMs were all over the place for a good 5 seconds. The next morning, yesterday, took me 3 tries to get my car to start. On the second try, my car started and then went dead. This morning it took me 5 tries. Try 3 and 4 the car went dead and on try 5, it fired up but RPMs were everywhere. This is ridiculous. I have a $13K Toyota Corolla that when I put my key in and turn, I starts every time.

Hey guys, I've been reading about this thread for over a year now and let me jump in and say I have an 06 FX35 with only 23k miles. I bought it in Jan of 2010 and started having issues with starting the vehicle. I brought the car to the dealership and they replaced my ac amp and battery around March. I then brought it back in Oct and they replaced the same two issues. WTF!! Seems like an 06 issue here. Nobody seems to know what it is. Right now, it's around 19 degrees in the morning in MA and I have the same problem every morning.

I'm thinking about buying a 4 year extended warranty for $2100. It covers bumper to bumper. Is this a good idea?

I would not

It is up to you but I would not put any money (out of pocket) into the car. There are obviously issue with this vehicle. As a matter of fact, I am going today to trade my car in. The best thing to do, get rid of it. I have had my car for less than 1 year (had 30K miles when I bought it) and it has been in the shop, over night, on 4 occasions. The last stint was 8 days. It is not worth it to me or my family to have an unreliable vechicle.

Does anyone know how long the factory warranty is good for? I asked them when I bought it in Jan of this year, they couldnt tell me an exact answer. I just hope its longer than 4 years. If so, I only have a couple days to call the dealer to have them look at it again or else my factory warranty is expired...

Warranty starts the day that the first buyer puts the title in his/her name.

The dealer can let you know what the date of the above was....or typically carfax, but that's not always the most reliable.
